Gandara’s pension vesting in doubt

When Sweetwater schools Superintendent Jesus Gandara was terminated a year ago, his bosses on the school board allowed him to use sick time, vacation and administrative leave to extend his tenure by two-and-a-half months — thereby vesting in his pension benefits.

Now, state pension officials are asking for proof that he was really sick. If he wasn’t, he could lose his pension and be required to repay benefits paid so far.
